Tahiti & Fiji
3. TAHITI & FIJI Honeymoon Season: May - November

TAHITI - This is the most chic spot with a little European flair in the entire South Pacific - a blend of French and Polynesian culture and cuisine. The beaches are spectacular, your every need is catered to, but be prepared for the price. It's one of the few places in this hemisphere where you can have your own over-the-water bungalow. You can slip right off your balcony and go swimming at night, or you can have room service rowed out to you by canoe. Definitely unique, and so is the price (and 95% of the hotels are a-la-carte - meals and drinks are extra). That's because it's hard to find a more romantic place on earth.

$6,000 - $15,000 per couple (9-12 Days)

The Tahitian islands consist of hundreds of uninhabited little islands, of which only a handful or two have resorts. Our favorites are

Bora Bora - the most famous, legendary and beautiful, is where the first over-the- water bungalow resort was put, and is to this day the number one most asked for Tahitian honeymoon destination - it's serene, beautiful, and perfect. What most people don't realize, the island of Bora Bora really comprises a group of about 6-7 islands. Most of these islands have one resort per island. Even the airport is on an island by itself - you then take a speed boat to the island you're staying at.

Le Meridien Bora Bora
Bora Bora Pearl Beach
Located on the southern tip of a large motu facing the island of Bora Bora on one side and Raiatea on the other. The location allows walking or horseback riding along the outer reef as well as the beaches on the lagoon side of the motu. This hotel is for activity seekers and romantics alike.
On a motu offers a choice of over water bungalows, unique beachfront suites with a Jacuzzi and sundeck in their own private garden, or garden pool suites which feature a small private pool within a walled garden with a large deck and covered gazebo. Privacy in a small intimate setting are a priority for guest who stay here.

Moorea - the second most populated island in the chain and is closest to the main island (which is called Tahiti). This island has quite a few little towns, restaurants and stores - you'll probably rent scooters or bikes to go explore. This is the greenest island of all. You can even swim with dolphins on this island.

And the tiny islands of Huahine (Beth's favorite), Rangiroa, a divers paradise, and Manihi - black pearl diving is a specialty here.

Sheraton Moorea
Moorea Beachcomber Parkroyal
The newest hotel on the island with 106 air conditioned garden, beach and over water bungalows. All bungalows have a full tub and shower, hair dryer, remote control TV, mini bar, and the over-water bungalows have glass viewing floors to see the fish below. There is a infinity pool and Jacuzzi, that is right on a white powder sand beach. The hotel also boast a full-service spa.
This hotel is much quieter and more intimate than the Beachcomber.
Offers a choice of air-conditioning rooms or traditional garden, beachfront and air conditioned over water bungalows. There is a swimming pool two tennis courts and two restaurants. There is a Spa and Massage Center operating within the hotel. Complimentary activities include tennis, use of outrigger canoes and snorkeling equipment. The only place that offers a Dolphin encounter in the lagoon near the over water bungalows. This hotel is the center of activity and nightlife on the island.

Tahiti - The main island, has the big international airport, and the city Papeete, the capital of the whole chain of islands. It is the busiest island, a commercial capital, a stopping off point on your way to all of the other islands. From L.A.

Le Meridien Tahiti
Tahiti Beachcomber Intercontinental
Located beside the tranquil lagoon in the district of Puunauia just a few miles from Papeete. The hotel, with its 138 rooms or suites and 12 over water bungalows, is built along a natural white sand beach. All rooms and bungalows are air conditioned and have tea and coffee makers, mini bars, in-room safes, and cable TV. The hotel has a tennis court and a large sand bottom swimming pool. For the history buff, the Museum of Tahiti and Her Island is within walking distance.
The Tahiti Beachfront Parkroyal offers the serenity and the beauty of the South Pacific. Opposite the Island of Moorea, a delightful oasis nestles in the heart of 30 acres of lush tropical gardens, on the edge of an emerald green lagoon. Just like a dream. The 2 superb swimming-pools at the Tahiti Beachcomber Parkroyal and it's white sand beach blend with the turquoise waters of the lagoon. Romance and comfort, a stay in an over water bungalow will remain a unique experience.

Fiji - A nation of 300 islands, is much less sophisticated than Tahiti, like Hawaii probably was one hundred years ago. People here are unbelievably friendly and open. Beaches haven't been touched in a thousand years. Most visitors here come from Australia, New Zealand and the United States because they love the "no snob" attitude of these fabulous islands. Whether you're a movie star arriving for a honeymoon, as many do, or a honeymoon couple arriving from Washington, D.C., you get the same warm greeting. Service is very personalized and attentive, with a guest to staff ratio of 2:1.

Life here is casual. You can eat in the best restaurant in a pair of Bermuda shorts or jeans. One difference from Tahiti is that th ere are no over-the-water bungalows here…you will probably be on your own island on the beach in a thatched roof hut, and most include meals, drinks, and sports in the price. Waterfalls abound on these islands, with horse back riding along the beach, and some of the world's best scuba diving. Beth and Jim both feel Fiji is the best buy for those seeking a romantic, exotic one-of-a-kind South Pacific Island Honeymoon. See us - we know all the best island resorts in Fiji.

From L.A.: $5,000 - $12,000 per couple (10-12 Days)
